Common LG Nexus 4 Problems and Their Repairs

One of the first and biggest problems that the LG Nexus 4 encountered was with its launch, when LG simply failed to anticipate and meet the demand. That aside, like every gadget that hits the markets, LG Nexus 4 wasn’t without its glitches.

How to Fix Common LG Nexus 4 Problems

Before the launch, every smartphone seems perfect, it’s not until the customers start using them extensively do some of the most mind boggling problems emerge. Here are some of the most common problems users have reported about the LG Nexus 4 and their potential repairs:

  1. Malfunctioning Microphone – some users complain that while on a call people on the other end cannot hear their voice or that their voice gradually fades until it practically goes silent. Some users note that the problem cropped up after updating the Android to 4.2.2, however upgrading to 4.3 still doesn’t fix the problem for others. Another potential solution is starting the phone in safe mode; if this fixes the problems then it means it originated because of an app you downloaded. Try deleting the apps one at a time to determine which app is the culprit.
  2. Slow Charging – this is more of an annoyance than a problem, but some LG Nexus 4 do take a longer time to charge when charged through the laptop with the USB cable. Charging with the USB charger reducing the time a little but not by much. Using a different USB cable and charger can fix the problem.
  3. Glitchy Bluetooth – A lot of users have complained that the Bluetooth either refuses to connect with other devices or drops connection frequently. In some devices the Bluetooth refuses to turn on. There are reports that the Wi-Fi conflicts with the Bluetooth, which is why switching the Wi-Fi off before turning the Bluetooth on fixes the problem. Updating to Android 4.3 also resolves the problem for many users.
  4. Delicate Glass Back – the Nexus 4 sports a delicate glass back which is prone to cracks if dropped or knocked. Getting a screen protector or case can keep the cracks at bay. LG can fix a cracked back for around $70.
  5. Static or Buzzing in the Earpiece – there have been complaints about static or a persistent buzzing coming from the earpiece during a call. A slight buzzing when you bring the phone close to the ear is not unusual but if its audible even without holding it close then there is a problem with the phone. A persistent and audible buzzing means that there is a hardware problem in your Nexus 4, contact LG, Google or the carrier you purchased it from to get it replaced.
  6. Unresponsive Camera – an unresponsive camera is nothing new in a smartphone, but some Nexus 4 users also complain that if the camera works, the flash doesn’t. There is no permanent fix for this problem yet. However, rebooting the phone and/or switching to video mode and shooting a short video might solve the problem temporarily.

Like all smarphones the Nexus 4 isn’t without its flaws, but thankfully, most of them can be resolved by the users themselves or by hiring a third party repair service.
